Equinor’s 6,662m PL 120 Wildcat Well Finds No Hydrocarbons

EQNREQNR

Equinor and partners concluded drilling the 34/8-A-37 H wildcat well in PL 120 east of the Visund field at 6,662m measured depth without discovering producible hydrocarbons. The well encountered 53m of good-quality Statfjord Group sandstones and 50m of moderate-quality Lunde Formation sandstones before being plugged and abandoned.

1. Dry Well Conclusion in PL 120

Equinor and its co‐licensees Repsol, ConocoPhillips and Petoro concluded drilling the 34/8-A-37 H wildcat well at the Skoll and Hati prospects east of the Visund field after reaching a measured depth of 6,662m without finding producible hydrocarbons. The well was plugged and abandoned, marking the 29th exploration well in production licence PL 120, awarded in 1985.

2. Reservoir Encounter and Technical Details

The well penetrated approximately 112m of Statfjord Group reservoir rocks, including 53m of good-quality sandstone, and drilled 150m of Lunde Formation with 50m of moderate-to-good-quality sandstone. Both targets displayed hydrocarbon shows but contained water. Drilling was conducted from the Visund A platform at a water depth of 335m.
