1. EU Regulator Proposes DMA Coverage for Amazon Cloud Services
The European Commission recommended that Amazon Web Services be designated under the Digital Markets Act as a “gatekeeper” platform, potentially subjecting AWS to mandatory data-sharing, interoperability and non-discrimination rules in Europe. This move could increase compliance costs and limit Amazon’s ability to prioritize its own cloud services over competitors’ offerings.
2. Amazon Commits Additional $13B to AI and Cloud Infrastructure in India
Amazon announced an extra $13 billion investment by 2030 to expand AI and cloud infrastructure in Mumbai and Hyderabad, adding to a prior $35 billion pledge and bringing its total India commitment to $48 billion. The company aims to support 3.8 million jobs, enable $80 billion in e-commerce exports and extend AI benefits to millions of small businesses and students.
