EU Scrutiny of Meta’s AI Stack and 700 MW Data Center Lease Loss

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg will meet EU antitrust chief Teresa Ribera in San Francisco to face scrutiny over the company’s entire AI stack, including chatbots, training data and cloud infrastructure. Meta also lost negotiations to lease the 700 MW Abilene, Texas data center site, which Microsoft secured instead.

Teresa Ribera will meet Mark Zuckerberg in San Francisco to address concerns over dominant tech firms extending influence into artificial intelligence. She has opened investigations into Meta’s AI stack, examining chatbots, the data used for training and underlying cloud infrastructure as part of EU competition enforcement.

2. Abilene Data Center Negotiations

Meta Platforms explored leasing the 700 MW Abilene, Texas data center site but talks fell through. Microsoft reached an agreement with developer Crusoe to secure the facility adjacent to Oracle’s Stargate campus for its cloud and AI workloads.
