Euro zone investor morale falls in October, Sentix survey shows
SPY•The Sentix euro zone investor morale index fell to 2.7 points in October from 5.1 in September, below the 5.0 forecast. The decline reflected weaker expectations, while the current situation reading was unchanged.
1. Expectations weaken
The Sentix index fell after reaching its highest reading in more than four years in September. The current situation subindex stayed at -3.3 points, while expectations dropped 5 points to 8.8.
2. German readings diverge
Sentix’s headline index for Germany slipped to -3.6 from -2.8, and expectations fell to 8.0 from 12.3. The current situation rose for a fourth consecutive month to -14.5, its highest level since May 2023. Sentix said hopes of an economic upturn remained intact, but expectations were also dampening.
3. Survey details
Sentix surveyed 1,030 investors, including 218 institutional investors, between October 1 and October 3.
