European stocks rose as markets steadied after a technology selloff, while the dollar fell 0.4% and was on track for its first weekly loss in four weeks. The STOXX 600 gained 0.6%, and the MSCI World Equity Index rose 0.3%.
European stocks rose in early trading on Friday, recovering after a sharp drop in technology stocks the previous session. At 0914 GMT, the STOXX 600 was up 0.6%, Germany’s DAX had risen around 1% and France’s CAC 40 was up 0.1%; London’s FTSE 100 was flat. The MSCI World Equity Index gained 0.3% but remained on track for a weekly loss.
Investors remained concerned about debt financing and credit risks among AI-related companies, particularly heavily indebted data centre operators such as CoreWeave. Amelie Derambure, a senior multi-asset portfolio manager at Amundi, said questions remained about monetization and the sustainability of profits and margins in the sector.
The dollar fell 0.4%, with its index at 101.68, as lower US Treasury yields made the currency less attractive. European government bond yields rose on Friday but were down overall for the week, as investors sought government debt amid concerns about AI-related companies’ finances.
