ExxonMobil starts CCS at Nucor Louisiana DRI plant, targeting 800,000 metric tons CO2 captured annually

The Texas Railroad Commission issued a draft permit in July 2025 for Rose project wells in Jefferson County, Texas.
The Rose storage site is planned for up to 5 million metric tons of CO2 per year for 13 years, supporting industrial customers’ emissions-reduction plans.
CCS startup at Nucor Louisiana plant
ExxonMobil began carbon capture and storage operations at Nucor’s direct reduced iron facility in Convent, Louisiana.
The project targets the capture, transport and storage of up to 800,000 metric tons of CO2 per year, aiming to cut emissions from steel production.
The move marks ExxonMobil’s third CCS startup for a third-party customer, expanding a Gulf Coast carbon-management network.
