FedEx to Share Tariff Refunds and Interest from $166 Billion Disbursement

FedEx will pass along any tariff refund payments and accrued interest it receives from the US government’s disbursement of $166 billion in unlawfully collected global tariffs to its customers. US Customs validated about 1.74 million import entries by April 30 through a new refund portal and will provide an update on May 12.

1. Supreme Court Tariff Ruling

In February the US Supreme Court ruled that $166 billion in global tariffs imposed under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act were unlawful, setting the stage for importers to seek refunds plus interest on duties paid since the tariffs’ implementation.

2. Refund Portal Progress

US Customs and Border Protection launched a new online portal on April 20 to process refund claims. By April 30 roughly 1.74 million import entries had cleared initial validation, with several million entries still under review and the next status update scheduled for May 12.

3. FedEx’s Pledge to Customers

FedEx publicly committed to forwarding any refund payments and accumulated interest it receives under this program directly to its customers, aligning with a small group of importers opting to share rebates rather than retain the funds.

4. Potential Financial Impact

While the total amount FedEx will receive remains unknown, passing refunds through may have minimal direct revenue impact but could bolster customer loyalty and enhance the company’s service proposition in global logistics.
