Fed's Goolsbee: June CPI data 'encouraging'
SPY•Goolsbee says June CPI was encouraging but not enough to signal victory on inflation
July 14 (Reuters) - Chicago Federal Reserve President Austan Goolsbee on Tuesday said data showing consumer price inflation cooled in June was "surprisingly benign" and "encouraging" but that one month's data is not enough to convince him inflation is headed back to 2%.
"I would be feeling a lot better" if there were several months of such data, Goolsbee told the Kenosha Area Business Alliance in Kenosha, Wisconsin. "I'm heartened by this CPI today but we need a lot more than one month to think that it is going well."
