Fed's Waller says he would prefer to target inflation range
SPY•Waller prefers inflation target range
July 13 (Reuters) - Federal Reserve Governor Christopher Waller said on Monday he would prefer the central bank to target a range for inflation rather than 2% as a point estimate, because the latter is too restrictive.
"I personally would prefer a range on inflation, say 1.5% to 2.5% because — the idea that I can control it exactly, it's not reasonable to expect anybody to be able to do," Waller said. "I think sometimes a point estimate is just too restrictive in terms of judging success or failure."
