Fermi America will file a 5GW Clean Air Permit with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality to expand Project Matador to 17GW of private power including 11GW of natural gas and 4.4GW of nuclear, solar and battery capacity. The expansion will add high-paying construction and permanent jobs.

Fermi America plans to file an additional 5GW Clean Air Permit with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality within weeks of its first 6GW permit approval, marking a key regulatory milestone for Project Matador.

2. Campus Power Capacity Plans

The expanded Project Matador aims for about 17GW of total private power, comprising 11GW of clean natural gas generation and 4.4GW of nuclear, solar and battery storage, positioning it as the world’s largest private grid campus.

3. Economic and Employment Impact

The campus expansion is projected to create hundreds of high-paying construction jobs and long-term roles in the Texas Panhandle, supporting regional economic development and meeting rising demand from AI and advanced computing industries.
