Firefly signs payload agreement with Starcloud; shares rise
FLY•Firefly Aerospace signed a commercial payload agreement with Starcloud for an AI computing demonstration in lunar orbit. The mission is targeted to launch no earlier than 2028 and would be Firefly’s third lunar mission.
1. Lunar orbit demonstration
Starcloud’s SC-1L payload will fly aboard Firefly’s Elytra orbital vehicle to test capabilities for a future lunar data center. The mission is targeted for launch no earlier than 2028.
2. Elytra mission duration
Elytra is expected to remain in lunar orbit for up to five years, enabling more rapid revisit times of the lunar surface for government and commercial customers.
