First Russian diesel from Putin-Trump deal heading for US, data shows
USO•A tanker carrying 40,000 metric tons of Russian diesel is bound for New York, with arrival expected on November 7. It would be the first Russian petroleum product imported by the US since the 2022 ban.
1. Diesel cargo bound for New York
The Malta-flagged tanker Agioi Fanendes loaded 40,000 metric tons of ultra-low sulphur diesel at Russia’s Primorsk port on October 22 and is expected to arrive in the US on November 7, ship-tracking data showed. The buyer and seller were not immediately known.
2. Deal sets out further shipments
President Donald Trump announced on October 9 that Russia would immediately export 300,000 metric tons, or 2.25 million barrels, to the US and global markets, followed by 500,000 tons in November and 1 million tons “immediately thereafter.” A Kremlin spokesperson confirmed that a first ship under the deal had departed but did not specify its destination.
3. Russia resumes diesel exports
The deal involved Russia lifting a self-imposed ban on diesel exports. Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said additional US shipments would follow as companies work out contracts, and that Russia could increase diesel exports to its usual levels of 3 million to 3.5 million tons per month by year-end.
