First Russian diesel from Putin-Trump deal heading for US, data shows
USO•A tanker carrying 40,000 metric tons of Russian diesel was reported by shipping data to be bound for New York, with arrival expected November 7; its manager later said the destination had not been determined. It would be the first US import of Russian petroleum products since the 2022 ban.
1. Tanker destination uncertain
The Malta-flagged Agioi Fanendes loaded 40,000 metric tons of ultra-low sulphur diesel at Russia’s Primorsk port on October 22. Shipping data showed it heading to the United States and expected to arrive November 7, but tanker manager EASTMED said the vessel was awaiting orders and its destination had not been finalized.
2. Planned shipments
The cargo would be the first Russian petroleum product imported by the US since a 2022 ban. President Donald Trump said Russia would initially export 300,000 metric tons to the US and global markets, followed by 500,000 tons in November and 1 million tons thereafter. A Kremlin spokesperson confirmed a first ship had departed but did not specify its destination.
3. Exports resume
Russia agreed to lift its self-imposed diesel export ban, and officials said further US shipments would follow as companies worked out contracts. Russia’s deputy prime minister said the country could raise diesel exports to its usual 3 million to 3.5 million tons per month by year-end.
