Flipkart Hits 1,000 Micro-Fulfillment Centers, Amazon Plans 100-City India Rollout
AMZN•Flipkart built 1,000 micro-fulfillment centers for its Minutes quick-commerce service in under two years and aims to reach 1,500 by end-2026, pressuring Amazon’s expansion in India. Amazon Now currently operates over 500 centers in 15+ cities, plans rollout to 100 cities with 1,000+ centers and a wider product mix.
1. Flipkart’s Rapid Buildout
Flipkart launched its Minutes quick-commerce service in August 2024 and has scaled to 1,000 micro-fulfillment centers across India in less than two years. This network enables delivery in minutes by placing small warehouses close to high-density urban areas, driving order growth and retention as customers shift to instant commerce.
2. Amazon Now Expansion Plans
Amazon Now operates over 500 micro-fulfillment centers in more than 15 Indian cities and intends to expand to 100 cities with over 1,000 centers. The rollout will broaden its product assortment beyond groceries into apparel, electronics and home goods to capture a wider share of rapid-delivery demand.
3. Competitive Landscape in India Quick-Commerce
India’s quick-commerce market is one of the fastest-growing globally, with Blinkit leading at 2,243 centers and rivals Zepto and Swiggy Instamart also building out networks. Flipkart’s aggressive buildout and Amazon’s planned expansion underscore an intensifying battle for logistics capacity, customer acquisition and loyalty in the sub-minute delivery segment.
