FMC slips after new US kidney-care strategy
FMS•Shares in Fresenius Medical Care slipped around 2% after the US Department of Health and Human Services announced a kidney-care strategy that analysts said could bring longer-term risks to profitability and uncertainty around market share and reimbursement.
1. Policy raises concerns
Analysts said the strategy could bring scrutiny of nephrologist partnerships, Medicare Advantage pricing and charities that help pay patients’ insurance premiums. Berenberg analyst Harry Gillis said nothing changes today, but the market is reacting to a longer-term profitability risk. Fresenius Medical Care said the initiative’s focus on innovation, home dialysis and transplantation aligns with its strategy.
