Ford Cancels Shutdown at Four Plants to Add 50,000 F-Series Trucks
Ford will cancel the summer shutdown at four F-Series assembly plants, boosting production by over 50,000 trucks in 2026 through additional shifts and hires. The automaker added a third crew at Dearborn, sped up lines at Kentucky and hired 100 workers to tackle prior aluminum shortages.
1. Summer Shutdown Cancellation
Ford will keep its four F-Series assembly plants—the Kentucky Truck Plant, Dearborn Truck Plant, Kansas City Assembly Plant and Ohio Assembly Plant—running through the summer by canceling the traditional one-week shutdown to maintain production momentum and dealer inventory.
2. Production Ramp-Up Measures
The automaker added a third shift at Dearborn Truck Plant to target an extra 50,000 trucks in 2026, increased line speeds at Kentucky Truck Plant and hired 100 new workers there as part of efforts to address tight F-Series supply.
3. Supply Constraints and Outlook
Production was constrained by last year’s fire at a key aluminum supplier and global metal disruptions, prompting these measures to recover lost volume and help Ford finish the quarter as the top-selling truck maker.
