Ford Recalls Nearly 4.4 Million Trucks for Trailer Brake Software Fix

FF

Ford Motor Co is recalling nearly 4.4 million North American trucks and vans to correct a trailer brake control software glitch that can deactivate trailer brakes while towing. Dealers will install a free recalibration update to the trailer brake controller software and notify affected owners starting in March.

1. Recall Scope

Ford is issuing a safety recall for 4,370,000 pickup trucks and utility vans sold in the U.S. and Canada built between model years 2015 and 2025. All vehicles equipped with Ford’s integrated trailer brake controller software are subject to the action

2. Software Glitch Details

A firmware error in the trailer brake control module may misinterpret brake pedal input, causing the system to disable trailer braking and sway-control functions during towing. In certain conditions, this can increase stopping distances and the risk of trailer instability

3. Correction Plan

Ford dealers will recalibrate the trailer brake controller by installing an updated software patch at no charge. Owner notification letters are scheduled to be mailed in early March, and service centers will complete the update via USB or over-the-air download
