French bonds not under selling pressure, but buyers scarce, finance minister says
TLT•French Finance Minister Roland Lescure said French bonds face scarce buyers rather than investor selling. He said he saw no signs of mistrust toward the euro because of France’s bond-market turbulence.
1. Buyers scarce
Lescure said French bonds were not under pressure because investors were selling, but because there were fewer buyers. “It is not a lack of confidence that is leading investors to sell French government bonds, but there are fewer buyers,” he told journalists.
2. Euro confidence
Lescure said he saw no signs of mistrust toward the euro because of France’s bond-market turbulence. He added that German government bonds were among the best performing in the current global selloff.
