Garmin Adds Dynamic SmartCharts to Pilot Web with Automated Minima and Desktop Sync
GRMN•Garmin launched SmartCharts on Garmin Pilot Web, offering dynamic instrument procedures with automated minima adjustments for weather and NOTAMs integrated into flight planning; features include split-screen charts, Approach Vertical Profile view and mobile app sync. Airport diagrams will debut later and require a Premium subscription in the U.S. and Bahamas.
1. Garmin Pilot Web Integration
Garmin has integrated its SmartCharts dynamic aviation charting solution into Garmin Pilot Web, enabling pilots to access simplified terminal procedures directly on their computers. This addition complements the existing mobile app, offering split-screen and full-screen charting options to leverage larger displays for clearer flight planning.
2. Automated Minima Adjustments
SmartCharts uses digitized global data to automatically calculate adjustments to approach minima based on active NOTAMs and weather conditions, presenting pilots with a single, tailored minima number. This flow ensures that critical changes in alternate minimums or equipment requirements are visible before flight execution.
3. User Interface and Workflow Enhancements
Pilots can filter charts by aircraft type, transition fixes, runway and other parameters to declutter irrelevant data and highlight critical route details. The interface also features Approach Vertical Profile views showing terrain and obstacle clearance, plus quick-access buttons for frequencies, briefing info and missed approach icons.
4. Subscription Model and Availability
SmartCharts on Garmin Pilot Web requires a Premium subscription, available at launch in the United States and the Bahamas. Airport diagrams will be added to the web platform later this year, syncing seamlessly with the Garmin Pilot mobile app for end-to-end flight planning continuity.
