Garrett’s Oil-Free Compressor Doubles Cooling Capacity, Boosts Efficiency Over 10%
Garrett’s oil-free centrifugal compressor technology demonstrated approximately double cooling capacity, over 10% efficiency improvement and noise levels below 75 dB in testing. It will be integrated into TONFY’s 80 kW liquid cooling units for battery energy storage systems with mass production planned for 2027.
1. Collaboration Scope
Garrett Motion has entered a partnership with TONFY to integrate its oil-free high-speed centrifugal compressor into next-generation liquid cooling systems for battery energy storage. The project leverages TONFY’s system integration expertise and targets high-density infrastructure and outdoor containerized applications.
2. Technology Performance
Testing of the oil-free compressor showed approximately double the cooling capacity of comparable units, greater than 10% improvement in energy efficiency and noise levels under 75 dB(A). These metrics aim to meet the reliability and performance standards for continuous-duty energy storage environments.
3. Commercialization and Market Impact
The compressor will be built into TONFY’s 80 kW liquid cooling units for outdoor BESS installations, with mass production slated for 2027. Initial deployments will cover both domestic Chinese and overseas markets, laying groundwork for broader thermal management solutions in high-efficiency infrastructure.
