GE Vernova, SPIC Brasil complete São Simão hydropower unit upgrade in 10.3 months
GEV•Project scope and expected benefits
The project targets the 1,710 MW facility, which supplies power to about 6 million homes, and is intended to extend operating reliability for about 30 years.
The modernization program exceeds R$ 1.2 billion over 10 years, and the six-unit overhaul is scheduled for completion in 2029.
The scope includes a shift from analog architecture to 100% digital control systems, aiming to lift efficiency, reliability and safety.
Next unit enters refurbishment cycle
Work is now preparing for the shutdown of unit 1 as the next unit to enter the refurbishment cycle.
São Simão unit 3 modernization completed
GE Vernova and SPIC Brasil completed modernization of São Simão hydro plant generating unit 3 in 10.3 months, below the 12-month limit.
