Gen Digital’s Avast published its 2026 Safe Tech Report flagging an “AI confidence trap” in consumer behavior around deepfakes.
- 56% of adults worldwide said they are sure they can spot an AI fake, while 52% shared or considered sharing sensitive data with chatbots.
- Gen Threat Labs data cited AI in tens of millions of video encounters in H1 2026, with about 1 in 30 flagged as scams.
- Workplace exposure emerged as a risk, with 20% sharing or considering sharing a CV or a work document with a chatbot.
