Genenta-backed Sòphia High Tech unveiled ROMAN, a robotic arm built to inspect and maintain the RFX-mod2 nuclear fusion research machine.
ROMAN enables remote work on the reactor’s innermost wall in an environment where plasma reaches about 20 million°C.
The system’s end-effector can remove and reinstall graphite tiles, perform visual inspection, and perform cleaning.
Sòphia High Tech led development, manufacturing, assembly, testing, and integration with Herobots, University Federico II’s industrial engineering department, and Consorzio RFX.
The project extends Sòphia High Tech’s aerospace precision engineering into nuclear energy infrastructure, supporting Genenta’s planned shift toward the Saentra Forge platform.
