Genesco is revamping its IT model with a leading global technology provider to boost speed, scalability and AI-driven automation aligned to retail and omnichannel priorities. The phased rollout supports the company’s long-term growth strategy, enhances efficiencies and may affect IT roles during the transition.
1. Transformation of IT Operating Model
Genesco has embarked on a multi-phase redesign of its information technology operations, partnering with a leading global technology provider to introduce new tools and agile ways of working. The initiative is designed to enhance speed and scalability, accelerate AI-enabled innovation and automation, and more tightly align IT capabilities with the company’s strategic priorities. According to CEO Mimi E. Vaughn, this next-generation operating model will build on prior digital and omnichannel investments, boost operational efficiency across Genesco’s network of over 1,240 retail stores and e-commerce sites, and support the company’s long-term growth trajectory. Although some IT roles will be impacted, Genesco has reiterated its commitment to support affected employees through the transition.
2. Holiday Sales Propel Upgraded FY26 Outlook
Genesco reported comparable holiday sales growth of 9%, driven by strength in its Journeys and Johnston & Murphy banners, and noted higher average transaction values across both brick-and-mortar and online channels. In response to this seasonal momentum, management raised its fiscal 2026 earnings per share outlook, citing improved gross margin trends and the benefits expected from the new IT operating model. The stock rallied 8.1% on the announcement, reflecting investor confidence in the company’s ability to leverage its omnichannel platform and disciplined cost structure to drive profitability gains in the coming year.
