Georgia Power Files for 2,000–6,000 MW RFP, Analysts Forecast Earnings Drop

SOSO

Georgia Power filed with the Georgia Public Service Commission to procure 2,000–6,000 MW of dispatchable capacity for 2032–33 and certify 385 MW of solar under its 2023 CARES program via an all-source RFP expected in Q2 2026. Forecasts anticipate Southern Co.’s upcoming quarterly earnings declining due to missing beat drivers.

1. Capacity RFP Filing

Georgia Power filed the 2032-2033 All-Source Capacity RFP with the Georgia PSC requesting approval to procure 2,000 to 6,000 MW of dispatchable resources, including thermal generation, energy storage systems and renewables, with bids expected in Q2 2026 and certification in mid-2027.

2. Solar Resource Certification

The company also requested certification of approximately 385 MW of new solar resources under its CARES 2023 program to expand its renewable portfolio and support cost-effective energy supply for customers across Georgia.

3. Earnings Forecasts

Analysts anticipate Southern Co.’s upcoming quarterly earnings will decline due to a lack of the necessary revenue and margin drivers for an earnings beat, setting conservative expectations ahead of the report.
