Georgia Power to serve OpenAI's Effingham County project
Southern Co unit Georgia Power will serve OpenAI’s planned AI facility in Effingham County, Georgia, under a 25-year electricity agreement.
OpenAI expects the site to require about 3,200 MW of power.
The contract includes up to 1,000 MW of flexible demand response, allowing Georgia Power to curtail deliveries during peak periods to support grid reliability.
OpenAI will fund infrastructure and electric service costs, with long-term contract requirements and financial assurances aimed at protecting other customers.
