Georgia Power wins approval for contract to serve OpenAI project in Georgia
SO•Regulatory approval for OpenAI supply contract
Georgia Power, a Southern Company unit, secured regulatory clearance to supply OpenAI’s new Effingham County project.
The contract covers 3,200 MW of new demand, and OpenAI will fund the required infrastructure.
OpenAI also committed to provide up to 1,000 MW of flexible demand response to help curb peak deliveries.
The large-load contract portfolio targets about $950 million in annual customer savings starting in 2029. Typical residential customer savings are now forecast to rise to $180 per year beginning in 2029.
