German unemployment rises much more than expected in September
EWG•Seasonally adjusted unemployment in Germany rose by 12,000 to 3.01 million in September, against analysts’ forecast of a 1,000 increase. The jobless rate held at 6.4%.
1. Unemployment increases
Germany’s seasonally adjusted jobless figure rose by 12,000 to 3.01 million in September, labour office figures showed. The seasonally adjusted jobless rate remained at 6.4%, while the unadjusted number of unemployed people dipped slightly below 3 million.
2. Sluggish labor market
Labour office head Andrea Nahles said the usual autumn pickup in the labour market had started sluggishly this year. “The economic improvement is not yet reaching the labour market,” she said.
