Germany industry association pushes for tougher China policy

The German industry association BDI called for a more determined effort to reduce economic risks linked to China, saying “de-risking” should be pursued more consistently. Its policy paper did not spell out specific measures.
2. Trade responses and partnerships
BDI Chief Executive Tanja Goenner said competition with China requires an industrial and trade policy response. She called for EU tools such as anti-dumping and anti-subsidy measures, while cautioning that new trade defenses must be carefully calibrated. The association also urged Germany and the EU to broaden ties with other regions and consider European countermeasures when U.S. protectionist measures impair European companies’ competitiveness.
