1. Investment gap
Allianz Research identified a German investment gap of up to EUR 730 billion relative to the US between 2019 and 2025. It said closing the shortfall requires private capital, simpler permitting, pension reform and risk-sharing investment structures, adding that public spending alone is insufficient.
2. Infrastructure needs
Redirecting 5% of German households’ financial assets from deposits into productive investments could mobilize around EUR 450 billion. Germany’s energy transition requires around EUR 1.3 trillion by 2045, while digital infrastructure needs EUR 275 billion to EUR 500 billion by 2030; multiyear grid-connection queues are the main constraint.
