Giant pandas arrive at Zoo Atlanta for 10-year stay
FDX•Two giant pandas from China arrived at Zoo Atlanta and will stay for 10 years under a new conservation agreement. They will spend about a month in quarantine before going on public view.
1. Pandas arrive in Atlanta
Ping Ping and Fu Shuang landed at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport aboard a dedicated Boeing 777, with FedEx donating the transport costs. Both bears were born in 2020 at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding.
2. Quarantine before viewing
The pandas will spend about a month in quarantine at Zoo Atlanta’s new panda complex before going on public view. The zoo said they are not yet visible.
3. Ten-year agreement
The pair arrived under a new conservation agreement between Zoo Atlanta and the China Wildlife Conservation Association. Zoo Atlanta previously housed pandas from 1999 to 2024; its former pair returned to China in October 2024.
