'Gift to our adversary': More Republicans balk at Trump's Russia diesel deal
USO•A dozen US senators, including six Republicans, urged Trump to rescind his diesel deal with Russia, saying it lets Moscow sell diesel freely and could help finance its war on Ukraine.
1. Senators urge reversal
Twelve senators, including Republicans Mitch McConnell, Thom Tillis, Susan Collins, Alan Armstrong, Lisa Murkowski and John Cornyn, called on Trump to rescind the deal in a letter dated Tuesday. The lawmakers said it was a “gift to our adversary” and would damage US security interests.
2. Bipartisan criticism grows
The letter adds to criticism from Republicans and Democrats. Collins, Murkowski and Tillis had joined Democrats on Sunday in urging Trump to reverse course, arguing the deal conflicts with US law barring energy imports until Russia ends its aggression against Ukraine.
