Gilead's emvistegrast meets primary endpoint in Phase 2 ulcerative colitis trial
GILD•Gilead Sciences’ once-daily oral emvistegrast met the primary endpoint in the Phase 2 SWIFT study, improving clinical response, remission and intestinal healing compared with placebo. The company plans a Phase 3 monotherapy study in 2027.
1. Phase 2 results
Emvistegrast met the primary endpoint in adults with moderately to severely active ulcerative colitis, improving clinical response, remission and intestinal healing compared with placebo. It was generally well tolerated, and serious adverse events were deemed unrelated to treatment; the ongoing study’s results were presented at United European Gastroenterology Week 2026, with maintenance-phase data planned.
2. Next study plans
Gilead plans a Phase 3 monotherapy study in 2027 and views emvistegrast as a potential foundation for future combination treatments.
