Ginkgo Bioworks Teams with Invaio to Scale Industrial-Scale Peptide Crop Protection Manufacturing

DNADNA

Ginkgo Bioworks will develop engineered microbial strains and fermentation processes to manufacture peptide-based crop protection inputs at grower-friendly costs in partnership with Invaio Sciences. The collaboration leverages Ginkgo’s autonomous lab infrastructure, including Reconfigurable Automation Carts and Catalyst software, to optimize strain engineering and bioprocess scale-up.

1. Collaboration Scope

On Feb. 18, 2026, Ginkgo Bioworks and Invaio Sciences launched a collaboration to develop a commercialization-ready microorganism capable of producing next-generation peptide-based crop protection inputs at costs acceptable to growers.

2. Strain Engineering and Automation

Ginkgo will further optimize its engineered microbial strains and fermentation processes using its industrial-scale bioprocess capabilities alongside autonomous lab tools such as Reconfigurable Automation Carts and Catalyst software to meet Invaio’s production targets.

3. Growth and Market Impact

The partnership aims to drive Ginkgo’s Microbial Solutions business by expanding protein production licensing and bioprocess development services, positioning the company to capture a larger share of the peptide-based agricultural inputs market.
