Glaukos says eye disease treatment shows lasting benefits after single dose
GKOS•Glaukos said patients treated with Epioxa for keratoconus maintained improvements in vision and corneal shape three years after one treatment. No treated eyes required additional intervention during follow-up.
1. Three-year results
Epioxa-treated eyes showed a 1.9-diopter improvement in maximum corneal curvature from baseline after three years. About 29% gained at least two lines on a vision chart, and 20% gained at least three lines.
2. Study and safety
The study included 38 eyes from 35 patients, with 92% of treated eyes completing the three-year assessment. Glaukos said there were no serious adverse events, treatment-related adverse events or treatment discontinuations linked to Epioxa during follow-up.
3. Treatment context
Epioxa was approved as a less invasive option for keratoconus because it does not require removal of the cornea’s outer protective layer before treatment.
