Global healthcare companies invest billions to boost US presence
BDX•Global healthcare companies have announced roughly $500 billion in US investments to expand manufacturing and research operations. Becton Dickinson plans to invest $19 billion, including $3 billion for domestic manufacturing, under an agreement that provides relief from future Section 232 tariffs on covered products and inputs, subject to final tariff rules and milestones.
1. Broad investment commitments
Drugmakers including Eli Lilly, Pfizer, AstraZeneca and Roche have announced roughly $500 billion in US investments as they seek to strengthen infrastructure, mitigate supply-chain risks and prepare for a shifting trade environment. The commitments include manufacturing and research expansions across the country.
2. Becton Dickinson agreement
Becton Dickinson plans to invest $19 billion in the US over several years, including $3 billion to expand domestic manufacturing. Its agreement with the US government aims to strengthen the supply of essential medical products and provides relief from future Section 232 tariffs on covered products and inputs, subject to final tariff rules and agreed milestones.
