Global Markets-Asian stocks hesitant before Nvidia, oil slips on Hormuz hopes
NVDA•Markets await Nvidia earnings
Investors turned cautious ahead of Nvidia's NVDA.O second-quarter earnings later in the day, with their focus on whether the massive AI spending boom is sustainable and can turn profits that will satisfy markets.
MSCI's broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan .MISX00000PUS was up 0.12% in early trading, set for a 2% rise in the month. Japan's Nikkei .N225 eased 0.4% while the tech-heavy KOSPI .KS11 dipped 0.2%.
Nasdaq futures NQc1 fell 0.5%, while European futures STXEc1 were flat in Asian hours.
"Nvidia is approaching the point where beating expectations is expected, so the headline numbers alone may not determine the market reaction," said Charu Chanana, chief investment strategist at Saxo in Singapore.
"The question is less whether Nvidia beats and more how big the beat is and whether guidance is strong enough to keep earnings expectations moving higher," Chanana said.
