Global Markets-World stocks rebound, Treasury yields retreat after Fed, BoE decisions
SPY•Central banks keep pressure on rates
The Bank of England decided to leave interest rates unchanged, but signaled further policy tightening could be needed as higher oil prices add to inflation pressures. The Bank of Japan meets on Friday, when it is widely expected to lift interest rates.
On Wall Street, all three major indexes finished higher, breaking a three-session losing streak.
Technology, consumer discretionary and utilities stocks led gains, while consumer staples and financials lagged. The Dow Jones Industrial Average .DJI rose 0.61%, the S&P 500 .SPX rose 1.1%, and the Nasdaq Composite .IXIC rose 1.7%. European shares .STOXX gained nearly 1%.
MSCI's gauge of stocks across the globe .MIWD00000PUS rose 0.84% and was poised to snap three straight sessions of losses.
