Global Ship Lease Orders Ten Containerships, Deliveries 2028-2030, $917M Deal
GSL•Global Ship Lease has agreed contracts to purchase ten mid-size, ultra-high-reefer containerships for a total of $917 million, with deliveries scheduled between Q4 2028 and Q1 2030. Upon delivery, the vessels will commence multi-year charters averaging 6.7 years TEU-weighted and are expected to generate $665 million in aggregate Adjusted EBITDA.
1. Newbuilding Contracts Agreement
Global Ship Lease has entered into conditional newbuilding contracts for ten latest-generation, mid-size ultra-high-reefer containerships at an aggregate purchase price of $917 million, with deliveries scheduled between the fourth quarter of 2028 and the first quarter of 2030.
2. Charter Contracts and EBITDA Forecast
Each vessel is secured on multi-year time charters with a TEU-weighted average term of 6.7 years, under rates structured to deliver approximately $665 million in aggregate Adjusted EBITDA over the charter periods.
3. Strategic Fleet Renewal and Risk Mitigation
These ten newbuilds will replace aging assets in the current 71-vessel fleet, leveraging a robust balance sheet and existing forward charter cover of $2.1 billion over 2.6 years to mitigate downside risk while capturing upside from evolving global trade patterns.
