GlobalFoundries Launches Quantum Solutions with $375M Commerce Award and 1% Equity Deal
GlobalFoundries has launched Quantum Technology Solutions to manufacture complete quantum hardware, including QPUs, cryogenic read-out ICs and superconducting interconnects for multiple qubit modalities. The U.S. Department of Commerce has committed $375 million and taken a roughly 1% equity stake to support domestic quantum manufacturing.
1. Launch of Quantum Technology Solutions
GlobalFoundries has launched Quantum Technology Solutions to scale manufacturing capabilities needed for utility-scale quantum computing. The new division leverages over a decade of cryogenic CMOS innovation, advanced packaging expertise and deep U.S. government partnerships to build the industrial layer for next-generation high-performance computing hardware.
2. $375M Grant and 1% Equity Stake
Under a letter of intent with the U.S. Department of Commerce, GlobalFoundries will receive $375 million to accelerate its quantum foundry build-out and the government will take a roughly 1% equity stake to share in future growth. The funding underscores national-security priorities for a domestic quantum manufacturing base.
3. Manufacturing Platform for Utility-Scale Quantum
Quantum Technology Solutions will manufacture end-to-end hardware including quantum processor units in superconducting, trapped ion, photonic, topological and spin qubit modalities, as well as cryogenic read-out and control integrated circuits, advanced packaging and superconducting interconnects.
4. Ecosystem Partnerships and Pipeline
The new division launches with customer engagements and a growing pipeline of quantum innovators, including collaborations with Diraq and Equal1, and partnerships with major tech firms on topological qubits and silicon spin qubit technologies. This positions GlobalFoundries as the partner of choice for complete quantum hardware solutions.
