GlobalFoundries Secures $375M Quantum Foundry Funding, Joins $125M AI Hub
GlobalFoundries will receive $375 million in CHIPS Act letters of intent to build a domestic quantum foundry as part of a $2.013 billion federal incentive package. It will also join Meta, Broadcom, Applied Materials and Synopsys in a $125 million UCLA research hub focused on AI chip development.
1. CHIPS Act Quantum Foundry LOI
GlobalFoundries has received a letter of intent for $375 million of the $2.013 billion CHIPS and Science Act incentives to establish a secure domestic quantum chip foundry. The facility will produce quantum-grade superconducting wafers and support multiple hardware architectures required for scalable quantum computing.
2. UCLA AI Semiconductor Research Hub
GlobalFoundries is partnering with Meta, Broadcom, Applied Materials and Synopsys in a $125 million, five-year semiconductor research hub at UCLA. The initiative aims to fast-track energy-efficient AI chip design by combining industry expertise with university research and workforce training programs.
