GM Adds June Overtime Shift at Flint for Six-Day Heavy-Duty Truck Output

GMGM

General Motors will add a third overtime shift at its Flint Assembly plant starting in June, extending production to six days a week without increasing headcount for heavy-duty Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra 2500/3500 models. GM sold 206,184 heavy-duty Silverados and 118,066 Sierras in 2025, up 12% and 9% respectively.

1. Production Ramp-Up at Flint Assembly

General Motors will add an overtime production shift at its Flint Assembly plant starting in June, increasing the schedule to six days per week across three shifts. The plant currently assembles heavy-duty Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra 2500 and 3500 models with about 4,200 hourly workers.

2. Overtime Shift Extension

The new shift will operate as an overtime run without adding additional headcount, optimizing existing labor resources. Flint Assembly will move from five to six operating days while maintaining three regular shifts plus overtime across weekdays and Saturdays.

3. Strong Heavy-Duty Pickup Sales Growth

GM recorded 206,184 heavy-duty Silverado sales in 2025, a 12% year-over-year increase, and 118,066 heavy-duty Sierra units, up 9%, driving the need for higher production. This boost reflects growing demand in the large pickup segment and GM’s effort to capture market share.

4. No Impact on Canadian Production

Heavy-duty pickup output at GM’s Oshawa Assembly plant in Canada remains unchanged by the Flint shift addition. The production increase is solely focused on the Michigan facility, ensuring North American supply continuity across both sites.
