1. Study Findings and Overall Satisfaction

The JD Power 2026 U.S. electric vehicle ownership study reveals that battery-electric vehicle owners remain highly loyal, with 96% indicating they would buy or lease another BEV. The mass-market segment achieved an average satisfaction score of 727 on a 1,000-point scale, up slightly from 725 in the previous year, driven by enhancements in battery performance, charging infrastructure and vehicle reliability.

2. GM Equinox and Blazer Performance

General Motors’ mass-market entries underperformed the segment, with the Equinox EV posting a score of 722 and the Blazer EV scoring 711. Both models trailed the 727 average and lagged behind the Ford Mustang Mach-E at 760 and the Hyundai IONIQ 6 at 748, indicating areas for potential refinement in features, quality and owner experience.

3. Implications for GM’s EV Strategy

Below-average satisfaction scores on key GM EVs could pressure General Motors to accelerate updates in software, charging compatibility and interior quality to enhance owner experience. As legacy automakers compete for share in a customer-driven market, closing the satisfaction gap may prove critical for GM’s EV sales growth and long-term positioning against premium and mass-market rivals.
