GM Recalls 43,732 SUVs Over Transmission Valve Defect
GM is recalling 43,732 2022 full-size SUVs—including Tahoe, Suburban, Escalade and Yukon families—over a transmission control valve defect that can trigger rear-wheel lock-up. Dealers will install free TCM software to detect wear 10,000 miles early and notify owners by March 30, with repairs at no cost.
1. Recall Scope and Models
General Motors has issued a recall for 43,732 2022-model full-size SUVs across its Chevrolet Tahoe (17,178 units), Suburban (7,616), Cadillac Escalade ESV (2,239) and Escalade (3,609) and GMC Yukon (7,820) and Yukon XL (5,270) lines.
2. Defect Details and Risks
Affected vehicles may experience premature wear of the transmission control valve, leading to internal fluid leaks, reduced hydraulic pressure, rough gear shifts and, in rare cases, rear-wheel lock-up at speed, raising crash risk.
3. Remediation Plan
Dealers will deploy an updated transmission control module software at no charge; the new code monitors valve wear 10,000 miles ahead of failure and limits gear selection and issues alerts if wear is critical.
4. Owner Notification and Timeline
GM began investigating the issue in November 2025 and will mail owner notification letters by March 30, 2026; owners can verify recalls via VIN and schedule service for the free update and any needed mechanical repairs.
