Gold Fields Ghana rejected claims from the Apinto Divisional Council over the renewal of the Tarkwa mining leases, citing long-running community engagement.
Lease-renewal application was filed in November 2025; a renewal proposal was submitted to the government in July 2026; feedback is pending.
Company outlines local economic contribution and compliance
The group said about $0.74 of every $1 of Tarkwa value stays in Ghana via taxes, royalties, dividends, wages, procurement, and community spending.
In 2025, it reported GHS 5.8 billion in taxes, royalties, dividends, and statutory payments; GHS 8.8 billion in local procurement, including GHS 6.5 billion in host communities.
It flagged $46 million spent on rehabilitation since 2016 and said the mine holds ISO 14001 certification and remains compliant with environmental rules.
