Gold miners fall as stronger dollar pressures bullion; Fed minutes in focus
GLD•U.S.-listed gold miners fell before the market open as spot gold dropped about 1% to $4,118.70 an ounce, pressured by a stronger U.S. dollar. Investors awaited minutes from the Federal Reserve’s September meeting for clues on policymakers’ support for further rate hikes.
1. Miners track bullion lower
Newmont shares fell about 2%, while Barrick Mining slipped 1.5%. Shares of Gold Fields, Harmony Gold and AngloGold Ashanti declined between 1.7% and 4.5%; Agnico Eagle Mines and Kinross Gold each fell 1.9%.
