Gold rises on softer oil; markets parse Fed signals
GLD•Spot gold rose 0.3% to $3,909.70 an ounce on Monday as weaker oil prices eased inflation concerns and investors assessed Fed signals. Bullion had fallen 3.5% on Friday to its lowest since October 2025, below $4,000 an ounce.
1. Gold rebounds after selloff
Spot gold gained 0.3% to $3,909.70 on Monday after falling 3.5% on Friday to its lowest since October 2025. The Friday selloff pushed bullion below $4,000 an ounce and followed technology-stock losses that led to forced sales of safe-haven assets and margin calls.
2. Oil and Fed signals
Oil prices fell more than 3%, easing inflation concerns and providing some relief for precious metals. Iranian negotiators reportedly met with Qatari mediators in Doha on Sunday for a third consecutive day of talks aimed at a deal to end the US-Israeli war on Iran. Three Fed officials argued Friday for more rate increases to combat inflation; traders priced in about a 73% chance of a December hike. An analyst said technical selling and liquidity concerns were overshadowing gold’s longer-term investment appeal.
