Goldman CEO watching for election-driven volatility around data centers
GS•Goldman Sachs CEO David Solomon said election-related political volatility around data centers and rising financing needs could affect returns and project viability. A study cited in the article estimates AI infrastructure will consume around 3.6% of U.S. GDP annually through 2032, or more than $10 trillion.
1. Election-related uncertainty
Solomon said it would be interesting to watch for political volatility around data centers ahead of the midterm elections. He said states’ and localities’ actions after elections could create uncertainty, while rising financing needs and pressure on rates could affect the returns and viability of some AI projects.
2. AI infrastructure spending
Communities have raised concerns about data centers’ electricity demand, utility bills and environmental impacts. A study cited in the article estimates the AI buildout will consume around 3.6% of U.S. GDP annually through 2032, or more than $10 trillion, and says its financing arrangements are becoming more complex. Solomon said Goldman is well positioned to provide services and participate in the activity.
