Goldman's board reportedly discussed plan to name John Waldron as next CEO
GS•Goldman's board reportedly discussed a plan for David Solomon to step down as CEO and John Waldron to take over around the end of 2027 or in 2028.
1. Succession discussions
Goldman Sachs' board discussed a plan for CEO David Solomon to step down and be replaced by Chief Operating Officer John Waldron as soon as next year. The proposal would require board approval, and its timing could change.
2. Potential transition
Under the plan, Solomon would remain executive chairman for one to two years after leaving the CEO role. Solomon had been expected by senior staff to serve 10 years as CEO, which would likely keep him in the position until 2028; he was named CEO in October 2018. Goldman declined to comment.
