Google Commits $920 Million Monthly to SpaceX Cloud Deal Through 2029
Google will pay SpaceX $920 million per month for cloud services from October 2026 through June 2029, receiving about 110,000 Nvidia GPUs, CPUs and associated components after a ramp-up at reduced rates until September 2026. The deal includes termination options if delivery targets are missed and a 90-day exit clause.
1. Deal Terms
SpaceX has agreed to provide Google with a multi-year cloud services package valued at $920 million per month from October 2026 to June 2029, including approximately 110,000 Nvidia GPUs, CPUs, memory and associated components. A ramp-up phase at reduced rates runs through September 2026 to ease into full fee payments.
2. Termination Clauses
If SpaceX fails to deliver the committed GPUs by September 30, 2026, Google may either terminate the contract after a one-month grace period or accept fewer GPUs at a reduced fee. Following December 31, 2026, either party can end the agreement with 90 days’ written notice.
3. Intellectual Property Rights
Google retains full ownership of all content, AI models and data processed on SpaceX’s infrastructure, ensuring proprietary control over models trained or deployed using the supplied compute resources. This preserves Google’s stake in any AI advancements driven by the external cloud capacity.
4. Strategic Implications for Google Cloud
Securing 110,000 high-performance GPUs externally bolsters Google Cloud’s AI capabilities but introduces a substantial fixed cost of $920 million per month. The agreement diversifies compute sources beyond Google’s data centers, potentially strengthening AI service offerings while pressuring division profitability.
